Update: I normally wear a 39 in most European shoes(French sizing) and the 39 was quite snug(short). These shoes don’t come in half sizes, so I’ve nervously ordered a 10. The quality and craftsmanship are top tier. Hoping the size 40 works, I’ve never in my life ordered a size 40 before, so hoping the whole size situation won’t be a disaster! Really want them in my life.

The two sizes were completely different leathers too. The 39's were a thicker, stiffer leather. The 40's were a glove like very soft leather.
