We had a temporary placement in Europe for my husband’s job a couple years ago. I packed one suitcase for three months and essentially three seasons of weather. It ended up feeling so freeing and possibly the most stylish I have ever felt. Something about have a small selection of core pieces that I loved really helped me zero in on how I wanted to feel when I got dressed. (And honestly there were one or two pieces I didn’t even wear and ended up shedding before I returned.) I’ve been chasing that feeling ever since and am thinking it’s time for a serious closet purge.

To be HONEST, this is the only substack that I look forward to read; I get excited when I receive the notification. Genuine content with good advice and sensible recommendations.

Please share your findings for old/vintage Ralph Lauren.

Two questions -

Why the old/vintage Ralph Lauren. Is the style, material or quality?

Has it been freeing on some level to have such a minimal wardrobe? I keep thinking I would be happier to have less choices....

Nothing of value to share and yet I open this email and the exact thing I’m pondering is front and center! I’ve been thinking long and hard about what to get for my birthday in a year where I’m challenging myself to only buy 6 new items and am on a budget - they all need to be workhorses. I started thinking about a Dorsey tennis bracelet about a week ago, imagining all the ways adding it to my closet will enhance everything I own. Curious which style you would recommend if you could only choose one? Thank you, Megan.

I concur with the others here — I enjoy your substack most as it’s about authenticity, style and substance, never shilling. While the pricing is extraordinary, I love exploring vintage Ralph Lauren at his Double RL store in East Hampton. Much like everything else produced in a previous era, the durability and quality is stellar.

Oh! Awesome to know! I’ve been finding/wearing some vintage RL at thrift shops lately.. like the cute bright gingham ones.. most of them very slim cut & like “first job” sizing.. good to know about the trove in EH

The best source for vintage Ralph, Brooks Brothers, etc. in New York is Crowley Vintage in Dumbo. I don’t think you will find more quality vintage Preppy Handbook clothes anywhere, period.

I’m so thankful to my mom for keeping all of her classic RL cotton sweaters for years! I love finding vintage RL in the men’s section of secondhand stores. You would be amazed the selection and of such great condition! My favorite online shop is Bad Tourist Vintage. She has some unique color/print combos, though they are usually very oversized. Thank you for continuing these posts ❤️

Love this substack so much. Is the grey sweater also Ralph Lauren? Or is it the men’s Alex Mill sweater? 🙏

Hi! I was waiting to so until I read this week’s substack from you. What style of the Gola sneakers did you go with? I’ve been wanting to try this brand but overwhelmed with all the different styles. Thanks Meg! 🫶🏻

Not Meg but she’s been wearing the Badminton in a lot of her posts. I also like the Torpedo and the Bullet.
