Dear Reader,
Two summers ago I flew to Milan to meet my two closest friends from my early twenties for a week long vacation in Italy followed by a work trip to France (to shoot Erin Wasson for Dorsey). I tried this bag on during that trip, bought it, then returned it 24 hours before getting on my flight home. Several weeks later I couldn’t stop thinking about it and I bought it again.
If you feel anything like I do right now - ready for winter to kindly see itself out - can I suggest pulling your Raffia bags from the back of your closet and using them as a transitional winter into spring bag moment? Raffia bags deserve more attention than they get in the fall and early months of spring (when coats are still necessary). To me, they’re the transitional bag. I prefer them draped over a coat shoulder even more than at the beach ( where I opt for canvas).
At the turn of the season, you might start thinking about sandals. Or dresses. But in March and April both are hardly practical (it’s freezing but the trees have buds). We’re all ready to put darker and heavier pieces away. Lighter colored layers (a cream sweater or coat instead of a grey or black one) and bags made in lighter materials are where I start (for the sake of being practical and warm).
Since my Marni bag above may have very limited inventory left (it’s an old style) I’m going to include a few others I’ve been looking at the past week.
One quick note before I sign off, next week this column will resume subscriptions (a very high percentage of posts will remain free). Kindly note that WIPOT has no affiliation with my company, Dorsey. I really appreciate that our board allows me to run this substack as a side position that is separate and apart from my role. At Dorsey, we encourage all of our team members to pursue side projects. I find that creativity in one area breathes new ideas into others.
With that being said, I am also beginning to move quite a bit of my “content” to substack only. I really prefer to take images during the week then post them on the weekends to this space (so I can focus on leading Dorsey and being a mum to my daughter during the school week).
Thank you so much for being a part of this community. The subscription fee covers the maintenance of this “site” (similar to a website but slightly different). Chat threads will remain completely free. No subscription necessary.
As usual, I’m going to remind you that you probably don’t need anything in this column. But if you’re looking for something similar, perhaps this email will help you find it, or send you in a new direction altogether.
Questions or comments? See you in the comments section (you can also email me directly at Meg@WhatIPutOnToday.com).
All my very best,
Meg
