Dear Reader,

Last Thursday I was standing on the corner of west 4th in New York City waiting to get a coffee outside of Sant Ambroeus when a gentlemen next to me commented on my shoes. I was leaning against a wall, in loafers, staring at people as they walked by me. That’s what I do in New York City. In between meetings I stand in peculiar places taking in what people put on for their day. I’ll admit it now. I’m less interested during fashion week on what goes down the runways, aside from a color story or two, and an accessories perspective, than I am on what people are wearing on the street. Over the past few years, I haven’t felt that collections change very much from season to season (the way they once did), and I don’t think they should. I prefer to zoom in on what people are wearing in the audience. To me, it’s the power of personal style that reigns, while the over arching runway stories inform the sandbox.

So there I stood on said sidewalk. Talking about people and shoes. Discussing the past few years of how footwear has changed and where it is headed.

When the shop opened I stood up and leaned in to ask the name of the man I’d been speaking to before throwing my bag on my shoulder and hopping a taxi to my next meeting.
